BIOGRAPHY

In the 1950’s, society expected women to stay at home and be a housewife first before any enrichment activities. I enjoyed being a homemaker and rearing my children, but I wanted a creative outlet. That is when I discovered sewing. I would combine fabrics and several different dress patterns to create the design that I envisioned. When my children were grown, I immersed myself in art, taking classes at Los Angeles Valley College, Los Angeles Pierce College, and Art Center College of Design. It was at that time that I discovered collage. I began to incorporate collage into my artwork and found that it was visually more interesting. This opened up a whole new method of creating art. Using collage, my work developed multiple layers with more variety and texture. I include such ephemera as old photos, postcards, letters, wrapping paper, old documents, maps, and graphs. This eclectic material helps to tell a story about when life was slower and more relaxed.

Currently, I am a member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters, Women Painters West, Collage Artists of America, National Collage Society, Los Angeles Assemblage Group, National Association of Women Artists, Inc., and Los Angeles County Museum of Art, sales and rental gallery. My commitment to art organizations gives me a sense of community which is important to me. The organizations afford me the opportunity to serve on the board, which I find fulfilling. I also teach a mixed media collage class that is rewarding in that I am giving back to my community.
